 The day that you get married should be a day that
you remember for the rest of your life. Ours certainly was,
having got married in the beautiful surroundings of the
Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur. A number of our friends have
got married abroad, mainly in Las Vegas, but when we discovered
in the Lonely Planet Guide that it was possible to get married
in India, it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss.
The only problem then was trying to guess which of the many
companies on the internet were genuine. Luckily a number
of the books that we had mentioned SITA as being one of
the best tour operators in India and they proved to be right.
 SITA made all the necessary
arrangements with the hotel, and they even took us shopping
when we arrived in Delhi for the traditional wedding clothes.
At the Lake Palace, we were married on a terrace that was
garlanded with flowers and fairy lights, with spectacular
views of the city as a backdrop. Our ceremony was a Hindu
one, with our friends at SITA being witnesses. The ceremony
was followed by a puppet show and traditional folk dancing
- both not to be missed. Finally, our wedding meal was by
candlelight on a pontoon in the middle of the lake, with
the waiter coming backwards and forwards by boat! It really
was a dream wedding in a dream location, and if you want
to feel like a Maharaja and Maharani for a day, this is
the way to do it.
Our time in India was an unforgettable experience and we
will definitely be returning in the future, hopefully on
our silver wedding anniversary.
